World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading
The upgrade of an item allows players to boost an item's gear rating up 700 points, and then give it a bonus. Items can be upgraded if they're in your inventory and you bring them to the Kiln.
Certain items can be upgraded to benefit from their unique stats (like an ideally broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) and others, like weapons, do not change significantly after an upgrade, and therefore aren't worth upgrading.
Weapons
Upgrades to weapons can increase their numerical stats, such as attack damage, crit probability and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons also come with an unchanging bonus that increases the damage they deal per second. Some weapons also come with a fixed bonus which is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a unit. In some instances, this bonus could add up to more than the amount of damage that a weapon can sustain on its own.
The cost of upgrading a weapon is contingent on its rarity and level. For example, a +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while the +3 model requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade a weapon will continue to increase until it is required to use the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the amount will be reset to one.
Upgrades to weapons can also change the stats of the base. This is usually a positive thing, but it can also have negative consequences. Upgrades can make items unusable, unless you are exceptionally lucky.
The ability to upgrade armor items to improve their effectiveness. In the case of a helm or chest, this will increase its base defense while gloves and belts enhance their required strength and dexterity. Armor has a rerolling feature for its Enhanced Defense percent. This means that it can sometimes reroll down to a lower value.
The upgrade template of a weapon will show the new stats that it will gain when upgrading, along with the values of these stats. This means that the weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. The 3% difference does not mean that the weapon will hit 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.
Rerolling a weapon is also possible by pressing the green button in the item menu, using the arrows that circle. The item will be rerolled and alter its stats, but it won't reset the weapon's level nor bind to account status.
Armor

A few armor upgrades can make the world of difference to your survivability. Certain sets provide massive boosts to poison, curse, fire and magic resistance, which makes the journey through difficult terrain a breeze. In general, the more defense you have on your character, the more health you can get from each point. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade your armor.

The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. It is possible to use anything from three Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees to upgrade the first armor piece, and anywhere between five Rubies or ten Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns to upgrade each subsequent one. For example the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep up with a large group of adversaries in most cold conditions and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded to +20 defense, granting you enough protection to withstand a full on raid with a few of your friends.

Trinkets
A trinket is a small and affordable ornament or piece of jewelry. It could also refer to an ornament or object that serves a purpose, but isn't important, like a thimble. In some cultures a trinket can be used to express affection or friendship between family members.
Trinkets can be upgraded by players in addition to weapons, armor, and potions. They can be upgraded by going to an upgrade vendor and paying the appropriate amount in currency. Trinkets, unlike other items that can be upgraded, can be exchanged at any time without losing statistics.
The upgrade vendors can be found in major cities and the capital of each zone, as well as in in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are offered with gold, tokens or fragments of a rare trinket.
